Introducing Luca d’Altilia
We are delighted to introduce Luca d’Altilia as the latest professional to join the Moores Rowland team, part of Abacus Trust Group.
Based in our Monaco office, Luca offers legal and tax advisory, and estate planning services for international private clients.
Originally from Milan, Italy, Luca joined the Monaco team this year, bringing with him a wealth of experience working within the private client sphere.
Working closely with colleagues across our offices in the Isle of Man, London and Monaco itself, Luca gives our clients specific tax and legal advice, as well as guiding them in relation to long term strategic planning to preserve and protect their wealth.
We caught up with Luca to learn more about his background, role and current trends in the industry.
Questions & Answers with Luca d’Altilia
- What is your professional background?
I studied Law in Pavia – Italy.
Whilst studying law, my first international experience was a one-year exchange period in the Netherlands.
After graduating I later went on to obtain a masters in International and European Law in Belgium.
Once qualified, I worked for more than ten years for one of the largest tax consulting firms in the world, where I learned to hone both my professional and relationship skills, focusing on helping private clients manage their complex legal, tax and wealth structuring requirements.
- Explain your role at Moores Rowland?
I am head of the Italian department and assist private clients and their companies in all activities involving them in the principality of Monaco.
These activities range from relocation of individuals and families to Monaco, to assistance in all tax aspects, both Monegasque and international.
I also provide or coordinate legal advice, based on our clients’ plans or needs.
In short, I am a well-rounded private client lawyer, specialising in tax planning and inheritance matters.
- Why did you choose to work in the private client sector?
In my view it’s the most interesting and stimulating sector, because of the excellent interpersonal skills that are vital to succeed!
To gain the trust of clients, clear communication is essential.
On one hand you need to talk with clients to make complex issues clear and simple, whilst on the other discuss the technicalities of law that are fundamental to a decision with authorities, advisors and colleagues around the world, which often involves speaking multiple languages.
The spectrum of skills is wide and varied, and it’s this challenge that I love.
- What attracted you to Abacus & Moores Rowland?
Moores Rowland have been one of the main players in the principality of Monaco for more than forty-five years, and to me has always stood out, for its professionalism, independence, and competence.
Being part Abacus Group was a happy and exciting progression for my career path.
- What do you love about living and working in Monaco?
In one word. Amazing!
Monaco is a place of dreams, which, like millions of people around the world, I have always looked up to with admiration.
I have the privilege of living with over 130 different nationalities, immersed in a diverse, intercultural environment, providing the valuable opportunity to enrich and improve my skills, through collaborating with others.
- What are the latest trends you see working with wealthy families?
Each family has its own economic needs and interests, but certainly what I see in the last period, is that wealthy families are increasingly seeking to diversify their assets, and to give greater attention to trusts, foundations and corporate vehicles that can help them in their succession planning needs.
- What is most important to your clients at the moment?
Each client has their own needs, it is very difficult to give a single answer. But if I need to give one, it’s the feeling that they are in good hands, guided and reassured along the way.
- What do you do to wind down in your spare time?
I love sport!
I have been rowing since I was a child, when with my team I had the great honour of participating in the World Championships.
When I can’t row, swim or jog. I like to try different activities, but I keep myself moving every day. I believe it is essential for the well-being of the body and mind.
I also very much appreciate sitting at the table, with a good glass of wine.
The most precious time, is what I can spend with my family and the people dearest to me.
