The Manx Breast Cancer Support Group is a local Isle of Man charity, dedicated to improving treatment and care facilities to all breast cancer patients, their families and carers, on the Isle of Man.
In 2013, approximately 100 patients were diagnosed with Breast Cancer on the Island, most of which were referred to the Outpatients Clinic which has limited facilities. This sparked the charity’s first major campaign: to raise £1.5m to build a specialist Breast Unit at Nobles hospital which could provide a dedicated area for breast screening and symptomatic breast clinics, as well as counselling areas and a patient/family resource centre. The unit opened in 2016 benefitting both staff and patients by ensuring the best possible care for all.
To date, the Manx Breast Cancer Support Group has raised over £2.7 million and continues to fundraise in order to ensure the Unit offers a comprehensive breast screening service on-island.
Annie Sanchez-Talavera, Senior Manager – Operations at Abacus, commented: “At Abacus, we recognise the importance of giving back to the communities in which we work and live, which is why we are proud to partake in a range of philanthropic efforts which include charitable giving as well as employee involvement and support. We are committed to supporting local charities across our office locations with the aim of assisting them in continuing their ongoing hard work and commitments to worthwhile causes.”
“It was a pleasure to present our cheque and more importantly to meet a charity representative at our offices. Manx Breast Cancer Support Group does fantastic work. We are really lucky here on the Island as women are called for screening every two years from the age of 50 until 70 and having a dedicated unit means patients can have their treatment promptly on-island with the support of their friends and family.”
Whether it’s a one-off donation or a regular gift, everyone can help the Manx Breast Cancer Support Group aid local people. The money raised will help them continue their research, campaigning and support, making a difference to so many lives.
