Isle of Man Live At Home is a well-established and dedicated Manx-registered charity which offers a range of services designed to enhance the lives of the older people in our community.
Understanding the important benefits to an older person’s physical and emotional well-being which come from being able to live well in their own home, the charity is committed to improving their quality of life by supporting them in various ways so they can continue to live independently.
The charity recognises the importance of feeling part of the community, along with the challenges some people face as they start to age , such as loss of mobility, bereavement, cognitive decline or loss of self-confidence. Through running social groups such as lunches, shopping clubs, coffee mornings and film clubs, as well as befriending members with the support of more than 300 volunteers, the charity aims to tackle isolation and loneliness in the local community.
Commenting on the recent donation, Annie Sanchez-Talavera, Senior Manager – Operations at Abacus, said: “We are proud to be a part of the Isle of Man community and believe that supporting local causes is so important, which is why we dedicate time and resources to making sure we are doing what we can to assist local charities across our office locations ”.
“Each quarter we choose a charity to benefit from our fundraising initiatives and we hope that this donation will go some way to assist Live At Home in continuing their ongoing hard work. Everyone at Abacus is pleased to have been able to support Live At Home, which works hard to improve the quality of life for older people on the Island.”
“I would also take this opportunity to extend an invitation to you all ; please donate, fundraise or volunteer for this good cause. Isle of Man Live At Home already assists over 600 elderly people, but there are many more on the Isle of Man who may need help and support. In order to do that, the charity would need additional funding. Whether it is a few pounds or thousands, every penny is gratefully received and any donations made will go towards helping older people on the Island.”
“In addition, Live At Home fully relies on volunteers – without them, the charity wouldn’t be able to offer the range of activities which are so valued by its members. If you can give up some of your free time, you will have the satisfaction of knowing you are making a real difference to the lives of older people in the local community. Even if you can only devote a few hours , it all helps. What’s more, you will meet some marvellous people, share some great experiences, and make some lasting friendships.”
