Abacus Trust Group are delighted to donate a total of £378 to Dementia Care and Support Services, as part of the Groups quarterly charity initiative.
Operated through Manx Care within the Adult Services for Older People department, Dementia Care & Support Services provides care to Manx residents living with dementia in ‘a safe, supportive and stimulating environment’.
Operating four residential dementia care homes across the Isle of Man, offering 24hr residential and short-term care, as well as support services.
According to the NHS, research shows ‘there are more than 850,000 people in the UK suffering with dementia, affecting 1 in 14 people over the age of 65, and 1 in 6 people over 80.’
This figure is projected to increase to ‘more than 1 million people in the UK by 2025, as life expectancy continues to grow.’
David Sunderland, Charity Secretary commented “Originally founded in 2016, Dementia Care and Support Services was set up to support the individuals of Manx Care’s Dementia Care and Support Services, to help fund and promote charitable projects and activities for the benefit of our residents, the little extras in life that help enhance their quality of life.”
Abacus staff member, Killian Conroy who nominated the charity, commented, “I’m thrilled we have been able to provide Dementia Care & Support services with a donation. The team provide an invaluable service for local residents suffering with dementia, and it’s a great feeling to have the opportunity to support this.”
Jo Dixon, Head of Older Peoples Services – Social Care commented “I would like to say a huge thank you to Abacus for their fundraising efforts in support of our Dementia Care Charity, it is so appreciated. All funds raised are used directly in supporting our residents and service users living with dementia.”
Money was raised by Abacus staff from a number of fundraising activities and the Groups salary deduction scheme, where staff contribute a percentage of their salary to a selected Isle of Man charity, which improves the quality of life of people living in our local communities.
