As part of its ongoing corporate responsibility initiatives, local fiduciary and fund services group, Abacus, has shown their support to the Isle of Man based charity, Hospice Isle of Man, by donating £830.00 to its worthy cause.
Hospice Isle of Man is a registered charity that started in 1983. The charity is an independent healthcare provider, governed by the same clinical governance requirements as Isle of Man Department of Health which means that all staff employed by the hospice are highly qualified health care professionals whose responsibility is to continuously improve all services provided. Hospice Isle of Man provides totally free services to patients and their families.
Sharon Connor, Hospice’s Events Manager, said: “On behalf of Hospice Isle of Man, I just wanted to say how grateful we are to have received a cheque for £830.00 which was presented to myself and Amy last week. More than 350 patients each year are being cared for by the Hospice, and this comes at a cost of over £3.5 million per year, of which £600,000 cash grant plus additional help is given to the Hospice by the Isle of Man Government.
“Most of the income comes from fundraising events, regular donations and legacies and 83p of every pound donated is used to look after our patients and their families, so your kind donation will help tremendously. Thanks again for supporting Hospice Isle of Man “
Amy Davenport, Hospice’s Fundraising Coordinator, added: “We are very grateful to all the staff at Abacus for choosing to donate a percentage of their salary to our charity.
“We appreciate they have a choice and for them to pick us is very much appreciated. Donations like this make a real difference to raising funds each year and we are thrilled that we were chosen to receive this time.”
Business Development Manager of Abacus Trust Company, Stephen Colderwood, said: “It gives me great pleasure to present this donation to Hospice Isle of Man on behalf of Abacus and all the staff. The Hospice relies on fundraising and donations like this to be able to provide the care to the patients they treat each year at no cost to them or their families.
“They are the only provider of palliative care on the Island and so our support of their services is paramount as we will all know someone that has or will need their care at some point. We wish Hospice Isle of Man continued success in raising funds and thank all the Hospice staff for caring for the Islands’ terminally ill with such grace, dignity and respect.”
Every quarter Abacus nominates a local charity to receive the funds raised through its Charity Salary Deduction Scheme, which allows Abacus staff to contribute a chosen amount of salary every month into a charity pot. At the end of each quarter the amount collected in the pot is gathered by the company and allocated to a charity.
Staff at Abacus also held a raffle during a recent social event, the proceeds from this were added to the donation for Hospice Isle of Man.
